The Nightmare in Syria and Turkey

The Nightmare in Syria and Turkey

Rana A., Staff Writer

February 6, 2023, was a disastrous moment for thousands of people in Turkey and Northern Syria. Hundreds of thousands of people were woken up at 4:00 am by strong shaking. But some didn’t get to wake up. Approximately 34.000 people have passed, only six days after the earthquake. Miraculously, people are still being dug up from under the rubble after almost a week of being buried alive with no food, no water, and fatal injuries. On top of the earthquake, Syria has been dealing with a civil war for more than a decade now. Old buildings already damaged by bombings and war have crumbled and left thousands and thousands of Syrians displaced from their homes, along with Turks who were at the epicenter of the earthquake. Although many have been rescued from the weight of buildings on top of them, they still have to deal with starvation, deadly, cold winters, and the loss of family. What can we do to help? Firstly, you can donate to organizations helping to raise money to go to Syrians and Turks affected by the earthquake such as Islamic Relief USA, Life USA, The White Helmets, American Red Cross, and many other charities. Secondly, you can donate clothes, food, or necessities to any local mosque. Lastly, just keep Syrians and Turks in your thoughts and prayers.
