As of Apr 21, 2023, Agust D (more famously known as Suga from BTS), has released his third solo project as a rapper/singer/songwriter, “D-DAY”. Although he has produced two other mix tapes in the past (Agust D and D-2), this album is different because it is his professional album he has released that is set to receive official advertising and marketing for, unlike his other two mix tapes. For example, on May 2nd, 2023, he was featured on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon to discuss D-DAY and perform his single in the album, “Haegum”. He also has a solo concert that started Wednesday, April 26, at UBS Stadium in Elmont, New York, where he sang, rapped, and danced the songs from Agust D, D-2, D-DAY and a couple of solo songs he’s created for BTS, as well as some medleys of BTS songs such as “Life Goes On,” from their last album they’ve made together before two of the members enlisted in the military, “BE”. During this interview with Rolling Stone, he says that this new album includes of tracks that talk about his rough childhood and adolescence, craving more real things instead of materialistic things, and much more. He mentions that in his newest single released, “AMYGDALA,” it illustrates the hard ships he went through in his teenage years, from being hit by a truck while on a food delivery on his motorcycle and to his mother getting lung cancer when he was 12. The music video came out on April 25th, and has now surpassed 5 million views.

Personally, I am proud of how far Agust D has come in his career. I’m not an army or fan of BTS, but I am a huge fan of Agust D and his work as not someone from BTS, but as a solo artist. I started getting into his music when he released his most popular song “Daechwita”, with the music video he released in 2020 reaching 421 million years in just 2 years. After watching and listening to the music video for the first time, I started listening to his other songs on his album D-2, and instantly became a fan. The lyrics he’s written are so raw and poetic that it really speaks to me and I sympathize with him. My favorite song from his album is “People”, as not only are parts of the song diverse in how Agust D sings them, but also because of what it talks about. In the son, Min Yoongi reflects and recognizes the influential people he’s met throughout his life, and how he strives to be a person, and not a monster, as he sees himself to be.
