Laila G., Staff Writer
The Uni High Wildcat is lucky to have such a talented and purposeful writer like Laila Gaines. Having traveled a significant amount throughout the country, (for competitive cheer) from Texas to New Hampshire to Florida and all around the East coast as well as throughout the state, they ranked University High School as their favorite high school they’ve attended. Among their favorite aspects of the school are our diversity, lovely teaching staff, fantastic opportunities, and an excellent knack for organizing protests. Laila has thrived as the president of the podcast club where they have honed their skills as an interviewer and speaker. Another contribution they enjoy making to the newspaper is their insightful poetry with views of mental health and profound self-expression which pairs very well with their incredible artworks that explore elements of surrealism and the aesthetics of the nineteen-twenties. Their influences largely stem from horror films and franchises such as Friday the 13th, Halloween, It, and the films of Jordan Peele. These creative and artistic influences combined with a passion for journalism and a great sense of worldliness make for an exceptional member of our newspaper staff and school in general.
