A Gary woman is facing several criminal charges after allegedly forcing her 11-year-old son out of their home and injuring a police officer during a volatile encounter.
On May 17, 2025, Gary Police responded to a call on Calhoun Street involving a child. Officers found the boy nearby, who told them his mother had kicked him out of the house following an argument.
When officers attempted to speak with the mother, identified as Sherelle Javon Jackson, she became combative—shouting profanities at both the officers and her son. Jackson admitted to making the boy leave, telling officers she was “tired of his ass.”
As police tried to calm the situation and coordinate with the Department of Child Services (DCS), Jackson allegedly slammed the front door on one officer’s leg, causing visible swelling and bruising.
She then retreated into the home, continuing to shout and refusing to cooperate further. Officers eventually took Jackson into custody after escorting a DCS worker into the residence.
On May 19, 2025, prosecutors charged Jackson with the following:
-
Battery resulting in bodily injury to a public safety officer – Level 5 Felony
-
Neglect of a dependent by placing the child in danger – Level 6 Felony
-
Disorderly conduct for making unreasonable noise – Class B Misdemeanor
Jackson is currently being held at the Lake County Jail.
